Antennas and Books for Hams

Restricted Space Antennas

KVK Antenna Systems is the boutique antenna fabrication unit of VK4KVK's efforts to bring his restricted space antenna designs to a wide range of hams both nationally and internationally. Not all hams have the tools, the workshop, the skills or the time to build the specialised antennas for ham radio. KVK Antenna Systems does just that. From 5-band 2-element single-DE quads with a difference to 2-element 40m and even 2-element 80m beams, to phased verticals, to rotatable dipoles, KVK Antenna Systems can better equip your shack to deal with the challenges of on-air operations - contesting or not. more...

Books

We publish the books of ham author VK4KVK. VK4KVK writes extensively about antennas and in particular - restricted space antennas. He published three books in 2005, one in 2007 and one in 2008.  more...

Features

  • written for the ham
  • easy to read
  • focus on minimising the cost
  • CD and hard copy format available

Beams

Our beams deal with 2 conflicting design goals - reduced size and maximum performance. Done properly, it is possible to achieve very respectable performance levels while at the same time remaining much smaller than usual beam designs. Our beams are not just the classic Hpol yagi-style antenna. We also create vertical beams from our reduced size verticals. more...

Features

  • low cost
  • very low in-air weight
  • great performance
  • easy to install
  • low cost to rotate

Verticals

Includes a derivation of the work VK4KVK did with the Vipole OCF-derived antenna of several years ago, we make multiband verticals. Some of these designs do not need a ground plane as they are vertical OCF-derived dipoles which fit the restriced space scenario very well. With a focus on the lower bands, it is possible to arrive at a 3-band or 4-band vertical for 40/30/20/17m or 80/40/30/20m which is only some 6.5m tall and a width maximum of just 3.7m at the widest point. more...

Features

  • optimised size reduction with L-only loading
  • no lossy L-C traps
  • absoloute minimal weight
  • field transportable - good for field days and emergency communications
  • hybrid Vpol (lower bands) and Hpol (higher bands)
  • shielded-balanced feed is a preferred solution

Masts

In the process of designing and building restricted space antennas, it was inevitable that the need for masts which could operate in a restricted space environment would attract interest. Our restricted space masts operate from a car or truck hauled trailer and provide a typical 2-section extended height of 7.5m. They are not designed as a replacement to existing 20 or 30m towers or masts. They are designed for the ham who has major restricted space constraints or the ham who likes to go portable to field days and the like. more...

Features

  • low cost - (targetting the cost of rigs some 25 years ago)
  • low weight - (aluminium construction)
  • portable - designed to be easily towed
  • easily installed as a base station mast
  • simple 2-section operation
  • teflon(tm) spacers between major moving parts

Build Service

Much of KVK Antenna Systems activity is building antennas to the specific needs of hams requirements. This might be a 2-element quad for 5-band operation or a 3-element NuBeam. more...

Features

  • custom built antenna
  • designed to last
  • can be field upgraded
  • parts available long after your purchase
  • can be serviced when required and as weather demands
  • you can speak to the actual antenna builder any time
